Masayoshi Son.

Masayoshi Son is the founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of SOFTBANK CORP.

Mr. Son took initiative early in his life and, at the age of sixteen, moved from Japan to California where he attended the University of California , Berkeley and graduated with a BA in economics. While at UC Berkeley, Mr. Son earned his first million by importing arcade games from Japan and installing them around the campus. He also worked on the development of several computer games. His entrepreneurial drive led him further to invent and patent a multilingual pocket translator which he sold to Sharp Corporation. This translator became the prototype for Sharp's successful Wizard series. He also founded Unison, a computer company based in Oakland , CA that is now owned by Kyocera.

In 1981, after his return to Japan, Mr. Son founded SOFTBANK CORP. aiming to leverage the power of the digital information revolution to make knowledge available to people no matter who or where they are and, by doing so, to foster the realization of a better life for all. During the initial growth stage of the Internet, Mr. Son was aggressive, while others urged prudence, in identifying and investing in embryonic Internet companies including Yahoo! and E*TRADE, making SOFTBANK the leader of the Internet revolution.

Today, Mr. Son is promoting various broadband businesses anchored by the “Yahoo! BB” comprehensive broadband service and the “BB Phone” broadband telephone service. Yahoo! BB offers one of the world's least expensive but highest performance ADSL service. The launch of Yahoo! BB service in September 2001 fueled the expansion of broadband services in Japan . SOFTBANK Group is, and will continue to be, one of the leading comprehensive broadband service companies capitalizing on synergies among SOFTBANK group companies and the accumulated know-how in the Internet infrastructure and service businesses.
